(Horatio R. Palmer,

"Pray that you will not give in to temptation."
(Luke 22:40)

Temptations are trials. Satan is our enemy; he uses every possible way to draw us into sin; and so we are always in danger.

Satan’s temptations are sudden- powerful- deceptive- and so timed to fall in with our particular circumstances. Also, because our hearts are weak, changeable and prone to evil we are liable to be led astray.

Let us be on guard- how many great Christians have dishonoured God by sinning. God is able to preserve and deliver us. He has promised; but prayer is implied in every promise.

Beloved, daily remember you have a crafty enemy; he will use saints and sinners to lead you astray. Pray simply, earnestly and without ceasing. God is faithful, and will make a way for your escape.

"Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each victory will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward; dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He will carry you through.
Ask the Saviour to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you;
He will carry you through."
(Horatio R. Palmer, Hymn "Yield Not To Temptation")
